Livestock slaughtering and meat production quarterly trend movements for June 2016:
Cattle slaughter for the June Quarter decreased 5 percent on March Quarter 2016 and decreased 19 percent (429,000 head) year on year.
Calf slaughter decreased 1 percent (2,000 head) compared to the previous Quarter and decreased 23 percent from June Quarter 2015.
Sheep slaughter for the Quarter ending June 2016 decreased by 125,000 head (6 percent) and decreased 13 percent year on year.
Lamb slaughter increased marginally (11,000 head or 0.2 percent) from the March Quarter 2015 and increased 2 percent when compared year on year.
Pig slaughter increased 2 percent (19,000 head) compared with March Quarter 2016 and increased by 30,000 head (2 percent) year on year.
Chicken slaughter and meat production both continue to increase, up 3 percent in the June Quarter and up 10 percent and 8 percent respectfully when compared year on year.
